It seems like people's religious beliefs tend to coincide with their moral beliefs. Is there anything you...?
First, morals are based on principles which should be based on reason not belief. Thus, if a state allows gays to marry, so long as i accept that definition of marriage, it is not a question of belief it merely is. Now, if I am morally opposed to the death penalty is is probably because I think no one person or group of people have authority over life and death. Reasons for this opinion may vary, but the result is the same. If I support the death penalty it is because I think a group may decide who lives or dies. Most people don't want to think, they prefer to be told and follow.
