Cough that causes vomiting?

For years my mom has had this tickle in her throat, kind of feels powdery. She starts to cough and the more she coughs the worse it gets, it eventually makes her vomit. Has anybody ever had this problem, and if so...Do you know what causes it?? Please let me know. I've been trying to do research and can't find nothing on it.
