How to prevent white marks in underarms?

My problem is that after I apply deodorant, and I start to perspire, a white ring will form around my armpit (not clothing). With gel deodorant, white powdery substance forms when it dries. I'm black so its really hard to hide it. I've tried putting on lotion over and under the deod. But it doesn't work all he time. Any suggestions?
