Why are these two scenarios morally different?

the difference between the two is that in the first one, you have a choice to save two lives, or one. in the second, the choice is between allowing 2 people to die because there is nothing to do, or purposefully kill one person to save the other two. the difference is intent, one is an accident no matter the choice, the second you have the intent to kill someone. I'm christian.
